Supervision USA is a California Public Benefit Corporation. Most supervising agencies are for-profit LLCs or S-Corps — our charter legally binds us to a public mission: the child's safety. It's also why we fund pro-bono supervision for families who couldn't otherwise afford it. We call it the Justice Fund.
Supervised visitation is time a child spends with a parent — usually the non-custodial parent — in the presence of a neutral third party. Family courts order it when there are concerns about safety, such as a history of domestic violence, substance abuse, or child abuse, so the child can maintain a relationship with both parents without being placed at risk.
At Supervision USA, a vetted professional supervisor is present for every visit, sessions are audio-recorded, and a neutral written report documents what happened.
The custodial parent is the parent a child primarily lives with; the non-custodial parent has visitation rights rather than primary physical custody. In supervised visitation, the non-custodial parent's time with the child is overseen by a supervisor, and exchanges between parents are structured so the parents don't need to interact directly.
A trained supervisor is present for the entire visit, sessions are recorded, and geofenced "zero-contact" exchanges keep parents from ever crossing paths — removing the moments where conflict most often happens.
